Today, the Welsh Rugby Union published its Independent Review of the Welsh Rugby Union into misogyny, homophobia and racism at the governing body.
In response, Delyth Jewell MS, Chair of the Culture, Communications, Welsh Language Sport and International Relations Committee said:
“We welcome the publication of this long-awaited report. The distressing stories we heard earlier in the year showed that accusations of misogyny, homophobia and racism at the WRU were not identified or tackled, which represented a serious failure of governance at the top of the organisation. We’re pleased that the WRU is committed to rooting out these issues.
“This report does not, and cannot mark the end of this story – but it will, with hope, mark an important milestone on the WRU's way towards ensuring that rugby is a sport that welcomes people from all backgrounds, and that spaces are created where those people feel safe.
"As a Committee, we are determined to ensure that anyone who participates or works within sport in Wales can do so without fear of prejudice or discrimination.
“In February this year, the WRU’s interim Chief Executive, Nigel Walker, promised the Committee that the Union would implement this report’s recommendations in full.
"We welcomed this commitment, and we look forward to discussing the WRU's response to the report, and the actions it has undertaken since the BBC documentary was broadcast in January, as soon as possible.”
