The Presiding Officer has received written notification from Antoinette Sandbach of her resignation, with immediate effect, as an Assembly Member for the North Wales Region, following her election as Member of Parliament for Eddisbury.

Written notification has also been received from Byron Davies that he too is resigning his seat at the Assembly, as regional member in the South Wales West region, following his election as Member of Parliament for Gower. His resignation will have effect from Friday 15 May.

The Presiding Officer has informed the regional Returning Officer for North Wales of the vacancy that now exists in that electoral region. The Returning Officer in South Wales West will be informed of the vacancy there in due course.

Following notification, the Returning Officers are required to contact the next candidate on the list for the relevant political party. Once the Returning Officer has formally established that that person is able and willing to serve, the Returning Officer informs the Presiding Officer of the name of the person.

When the Presiding Officer receives notification of the name, that person becomes an Assembly Member. However, he or she cannot undertake the work of an Assembly Member until the oath has been taken.
