Children’s disabled charity Whizz-Kidz has handed two petitions to the National Assembly’s Petitions Committee at the Senedd.

The first petition states:

“Ensure Disabled People Can Access Public Transport As and When They Need It.

“We call on the National Assembly for Wales to urge the Welsh Government to ensure that [young] disabled people get the right to accessible public transport when required without the need to plan assistance at least 24 hours in advance.

“This will then give us the ability to be independent, seek employment, travel to work and meet friends at short notice.

“Whizz-Kidz Ambassadors are also campaigning to get essential training for taxi and bus drivers as well as training staff in disability awareness and disability support.”

The second states:

“Introduce Maximum Waiting Times and Improve Training for Staff Dealing with Housing Adaption Applications.

“We call on the National Assembly for Wales to commit to ensuring that disabled people in Wales do not have to wait for more than three years to receive the essential housing adaptions/houses they need and to work with local authorities to ensure staff dealing with adapted housing cases are adequately trained and accountable to ensure individual needs are met.”

The National Assembly’s Education Outreach team has been supporting Whizz-Kidz through holding election workshops, attending the Whizz-Kidz national conference in Wales and informing young people about how they can used the Assembly’s petitions system.

The petitions were received by members of the Petitions Committee.
