Presiding Officer Rosemary Butler AM has issued a good luck message to the Welsh rugby team ahead of their Rugby World Cup semi-final against France.

“On behalf of all Assembly Members and staff, I would like to wish everyone in the Welsh squad the best of luck for tomorrow’s game against France,” said Mrs Butler.

“To reach this stage of the competition for the first time in 24 years is a remarkable achievement and the players’ performances in the World Cup so far have lifted the spirit of the nation.

“We all hope they can progress to the final but whatever happens on Saturday we are already very proud of their professional attitude, flair and determination.”

National Assembly staff have also been showing their support for the team by wearing their Welsh rugby shirts to work today.

And, breaking with convention, the National Assembly will also fly Welsh flags from all of its flagpoles outside the Senedd and its Tŷ Hywel and Colwyn Bay offices.
