We call on the National Assembly for Wales to urge the Welsh Government to increase pay for nurses before we lose them.
My wife is recovering from brain surgery at UHW Cardiff. The professional standard of care has been exemplary, from all disciplines of her team, medical support staff and hospital support staff.
All NHS staff deserve a pay rise. However, I have spent weeks at the hospital witnessing the complex medical conditions, and constant stress, that front line nursing staff deal with routinely, and professionally, particularly in Neurology.
The profession is clearly beyond the capability of most people and it has been worrying to overhear nurses discuss financial struggles caused by the pay freeze. We must look after them, if we want them to continue looking after us.
