Name change information

From 6 May 2020 the National Assembly for Wales will become the Welsh Parliament or Senedd Cymru.

Name Change key information

From 6 May 2020 the National Assembly for Wales will become the Welsh Parliament or Senedd Cymru, commonly known as the Senedd.

The name is changing because the Assembly today is a very different institution to the one established in 1999. Now with full law-making powers and the ability to vary taxes, the new name will reflect its constitutional status as a national parliament.

On 6 May 2020 the new name will officially come in to use, meaning changes to contact details as well as Members and official titles. Here are some key practical changes:

Members titles

Members will be known as Members of the Senedd (MS) and Aelodau o'r Senedd (AS).

Emails

Email addresses will change from name.surname@assembly.wales / enw.cyfenw@cynulliad.cymru to name.surname@senedd.wales / enw.cyfenw@senedd.cymru

In most cases the prefix of current email addresses - first name, surname and any numbers - will not change.

While old @assembly.wales / @cynulliad.cymru addresses will remain active for a limited transitional period, we encourage you to use the new addresses as early as possible.

Website

The website will officially change from www.assembly.wales to www.senedd.wales and from www.cynulliad.cymru to www.senedd.cymru

Although links on external sites using the 'old' domain names will be redirected to their new equivalent, we encourage you to use the new web address.
