The National Assembly for Wales continues to rank among the top family friendly employers in the UK according to the charity Working Families.

Employers are scored on four key areas to build a comprehensive picture of their flexible and family friendly working environment including:

  • Integration,  looking at culture, attitude and how far flexibility has become embedded;

  • Policy, looking at the creation, development and deployment of flexibility;

  • Consistent practice which considers how well flexibility is supported;

  • Evidence and statistics,  looking at the effects of flexibility on the organisation, and their ability to understand those effects.

Chief Executive and Clerk to the National Assembly, Manon Antoniazzi said:

"I am so proud that the National Assembly continues to be a leader for its family friendly practices.

"We have found year-after-year the value of taking into account people's lives outside of our organisation. The benefits are clear in terms of enhanced performance and productivity.

"We won't rest on our laurels though. We will continue to support our staff in balancing their lives, developing their careers and providing outstanding service to Assembly Members representing the people of Wales."

The National Assembly for Wales continually strives to be an exemplar employer and a great place to work.  Its commitment to flexible methods of working is intended to attract and retain the best employees.

Holly Pembridge, Co-Chair of the Assembly's Parent and Carer Network Teulu said:

"This award confirms what a great place the Assembly is to work and to be recognised for our positive and inclusive environment. It's an excellent reflection of our commitment shown by our people at all levels to achieve the aspiration of being an exemplar employer.'

Jane van Zyl, Chief Executive of Working Families, said:

"Congratulations to the wide range of organisations whose flexible and family-friendly workplaces have earnt them a much-coveted place on 2018's list of Top 30 Employers for Working Families.

"For these best practice employers, their flexible and family-friendly working policies supporting mothers, fathers and carers are well developed, and flexible working is becoming embedded.

"But, as our research shows, flexible working on its own is not enough to deliver work life balance for parents.  What's key to unlocking parents' potential is a family friendly workplace culture.  Importantly, today's winners know this – and are striving to ensure their underlying workplace culture supports the flexible and family-friendly policies they have in place."
