Search for next Assembly apprentices underway

To coincide with National Apprenticeship Week, the search is underway for the next cohort of National Assembly apprentices.

Employees at Assembly Wales in a meeting

Applicants should be 16 years or older and not in full-time education or employment when the scheme starts.

Four successful candidates will be offered a 12-month full-time contract with a living wage of £16, 258 and a chance to earn an NVQ (level 3) in Business Administration.

The scheme offers a blend of real life work experience in different parts of Wales’s national parliament; learning about communications, finance, IT and how Assembly committees work, among other areas.

Former apprentices have gone on to obtain full-time jobs both within and outside the organisation.

Here’s what some of the Assembly’s former apprentices have to say about the scheme:

“Throughout my Apprenticeship I have gained essential skills, an NVQ qualification, valuable work experience and some fantastic memories. The Apprenticeship scheme was the best decision I have ever made. I have gained a wealth of administrative experience and have made friends for life. After passing my NVQ and my team support interview, I am now permanently employed as a ‘Professional Development Support Officer’ in the Commission and Member Support team where I hope to have a long and happy career.” [Emily, 2013 apprentice from Barry]

“From starting as an Apprentice, to being an official employee of the Assembly, has given me great pride. It’s given me endless opportunities to carry on my learning, and if I hadn’t applied for this apprenticeship, I wouldn’t have realised my own capabilities. I can whole-heartedly say that the National Assembly for Wales Apprenticeship scheme has changed my life, and given me the chance of a career”. [Lori, 2014 apprentice from Bargoed]

“My confidence has grown incredibly since starting the apprenticeship last September. I’ve had a well-rounded experience by moving departments which has enabled me to learn about the functions of the Assembly and how different departments work together to accomplish the Assembly’s objectives. It’s refreshing to be working in such a friendly environment where people are supportive and are cheering you on.” [Caitlin, 2016 apprentice from Pontypridd]

This is the fourth apprenticeship programme operated by the Assembly since its inception in 2012.
