The Record - A new platform for Assembly business
We’ve been working to make it easier for you to search, discover and share the information you need from the Assembly.
Assembly business is the work carried out by Assembly Members to represent the people of Wales, make laws for Wales, agree Welsh taxes and scrutinise the Welsh Government. We keep a written record of Assembly business - every question raised, every debate held, every statement made. We also film every Plenary Committee session and archive them on Senedd TV.
From now on, our new online platform, ‘The Record’ will house the Assembly’s Record of Proceedings (transcripts of Plenary and Committees meetings), as well as other useful tabled business, including all oral, topical and written questions and motions (which form the basis for debates in Plenary).
The Record presents Assembly business in a more open, accessible and useful way than ever before, but it is only the first step in a larger journey to transform our digital output.
Better search and filters
Searching for the information you need from Assembly business is now easier than ever. You can use key word searches to help you find exactly what you are looking for and quickly filter information by date, Assembly Member, Committee type and item categories – helping you to narrow a search and find precisely what you need.
For the first time, Committee transcripts are now fully searchable alongside Plenary transcripts rather than being held in two different formats and locations. You can currently only search committee transcripts of meetings from 01 November onwards. All types of information for the Fifth Assembly (May 2016 onwards) are available but anything currently from the First to the Fourth Assembly (May 1999 – April 2016) is available within our archives.
If you would like to see other search filters or items of business, we welcome thoughts and comments.
More ways to share and adapt
You can now quickly share specified extracts of Assembly business via social media at the touch of a button. We have added a ‘copy as plain text’ function for the convenience of users who are compiling extracts or printing.
Committee transcripts are now available as XML alongside Plenary transcripts. We also have more open data products than ever before. Read more about open data at the Assembly.
Feedback and future developments
We have developed The Record platform with the help of several volunteer user groups to try and ensure it meets your needs. However, we believe that user testing does not stop at launch. We would love to hear your feedback as you use this system for the first time and through continual development we hope that we can meet even more of your needs.
If you have any comments at this stage please contact us.
We will capture all of your suggestions and consider them in line with future development and changes. There are a number of future developments for The Record already planned for elements of Assembly business not yet included with The Record platform. The Record is only the first stage of a larger transformation project and we hope to address as much user feedback as we can.
