British Sign Language

This Assembly:

a) acknowledges that British Sign Language (BSL) was formally recognised as an official language in Wales in 2004, but opportunities to learn the language need to be improved;

b) welcomes the results of a survey conducted by the Youth Advisory Board of the National Deaf Children Society, which found that 82 per cent of young people surveyed in Wales wanted a BSL GCSE;

c) supports discussions regarding the establishment of a BSL GCSE; and

d) calls on the Welsh Government to consider whether BSL could be incorporated into its "Global Futures" vision of promoting languages in schools.
