Opposition to Child Tax and Universal Credit Reforms

This Assembly:

a) notes the changes to Child Tax Credits and Universal Credit, that were introduced by the UK Government, which took effect from 6 April 2017;

b) is concerned that the restriction limiting credits to two children will have a negative impact on family income levels and force more children into poverty; and

c) unequivocally condemns the shameful 'rape clause' whereby women can claim for third or subsequent children if they prove the child is born as the result of 'non-consensual conception'.
