Item 1: Introduction, Apologies and Substitutions

1.1 No apologies were received. Brynle Williams declared an interest as a practising farmer who pays a levy; and Mick Bates declared an interest as a member of a farming business which pays levies.

Item 2: National Assembly for Wales (Legislative Competence) (Agriculture and Rural Development) Order 2008 - Evidence Session 2

2.1 The Committee took oral evidence from Gwyn Howells, Chief Executive, and Rhys Roberts, Chairman, of Hybu Cig Cymru; and Don Thomas, Chief Executive, and Richard Howells, Chairman, of the Welsh Lamb and Beef Producers Ltd.

Action points

  • The witnesses agreed they would provide the Committee with further information and figures regarding livestock which is brought into Wales to be slaughtered compared to livestock which is exported for slaughtering purposes.

Future Meetings

Standing Order 10.37(vi) provides for a committee:

'to resolve to exclude the public from a meeting or any part of a meeting where the committee is deliberating on the content, conclusions or recommendations of a report it proposes to publish; or is preparing itself to take evidence from any person’.

The Committee agreed the proposal, under Standing Order 10.37 (vi), to exclude the public from any future meetings where discussions regarding key issues and the draft report would be held.
