Business Committee

The National Assembly's Business Committee announced on 6th June 2000 that minutes of its future meetings would be published six weeks after each meeting in the spirit of openness and inclusivity. The Business Committee met weekly on a Tuesday when the Assembly was in session. Jenny Randerson chaired the meetings, which were attended by the Minister for Assembly Business and a Business Manager from each of the other three main parties. The Committee advised on the management of the Assembly's business and on general practice and procedure of the Assembly. The National Assembly's Standing Order 13 provides full details of the Committee's remit. The following terms were used for the proposed route to be followed for individual items of subordinate legislation:
  • Extended procedure (subject committee and plenary debate)
  • Standard procedure (resolution in plenary with debate)
  • Accelerated procedure (resolution in plenary without debate)
  • Executive procedure (certain procedures disapplied by agreement of Assembly Cabinet)
