Bill-036 - Simon Thomas AM - Fair Votes in Local Government (Wales) Bill

Pre-ballot Information

A Member must provide ‘pre-ballot information’ to set out the intended purpose of their proposed Bill before it is entered into the Presiding Officer's ballot. This information is set out below.

Policy Objectives of the Proposed Order

1. To ensure fair voting in the electoral arrangements of local government by introducing Single Transferable Vote in elections.

Support received

2. It is expected that the Bill will receive support from organisations such as the Electoral Reform Society.

Consultation

3. Report of the Commission on Local Government Electoral Arrangements in Wales July 2002.

4. The majority of commissioners recommended that the Single Transferable Vote should be introduced throughout Wales as the system best suited to local government elections in the future.
