The team can provide support to Assembly Members by:
drafting amendments for Members to table in Bills;
helping draft ballot proposals for private Members' Bills;
drafting private Members' Bills for ballot winners;
providing Members with legal briefings on subjects related to Assembly business (in conjunction with the Research Service where appropriate);
assisting with speaking notes on legal issues;
helping Members handle subject access requests under the Data Protection Act;
advising on any legal issue affecting the position of a Member or an Assembly office holder (e.g. committee chair, Commissioner);
providing CPD sessions for Party Groups on legal issues; and
The Directorate is completely independent of Welsh Government. All our permanent lawyers are qualified solicitors or barristers within the England and Wales Jurisdiction. They specialise in public and constitutional law and the law of Welsh devolution, as well as in the policy areas within the Assembly's competence.
